Wall of the Week

28 January, 2022

Ok next up on Wall of the Week, I’m here for the clean, straight lines of this gallery wall from the Home Decor Instagram account @coleenisabelv. Classic while maintaining a modern edge with it’s simplicity, it’s pleasing to the eye for a host of reasons.

The first being the grid pattern. Our eyes love the unity of a group of images like this. Especially when a thin frame is used. It’s not overpowering to have this many frames in a group together because there is enough space within and around each frame. The frames are doing a perfect job here of having just enough definition to draw you in to the images themselves.

As does the choice of mounting. I love love love when people opt for a bigger mount like this. It creates room for the image to breathe and it makes you want to get closer and study the image. Perfect for photographs especially as we want to get close up to see facial expressions, have a look at what’s going on in the scene that’s been captured.

The choice of black and white photos also wins it for me. It means that all images are equal and deserve as much attention as each other. There aren’t any bolder colours jumping out of only one or two of the frames, making the grid pattern of the frames look off kilter. They also look in keeping with the rest of the natural interiors below the frames.

The placing of the frames above the sideboard also create such a lovely focus point. This could be done in any room and creates such interest to what could be an otherwise dull wall in an entrance hall or dining area.

I’m off to print some black and white family photo’s off and see if I can recreate something similar in my home, how about you?!
